Travis Hunter’s parents are Ferrante Edmonds and Travis Sr. His father, Travis Sr. was an athlete, during his time at Boynton Beach Community High School showcasing his talents in both football and track events. Following that he pursued a career in professional football playing for the Florida Football Alliance and the Southern States Football League.

In 2007 he even earned the Offensive Rookie of the Year award from the league. Travis Sr.’s influence on his son has been significant in his work and a genuine love for football. Additionally, he has been a supporter of Travis Jr.’s decision to attend Jackson State University where he is coached by Deion Sanders, a former NFL star and Pro Football Hall of Famer.

Travis Jr.’s mother is Ferrante Edmonds. While she has maintained a low public profile since her son’s rise to fame she has expressed her unwavering support for him on occasion. In a Sports Illustrated interview conducted in 2021, Edmonds expressed pride in her son’s growth as a man.

She commended his dedication and hard work towards achieving his dreams while expressing confidence that he will achieve things in the future. During another interview, she affectionately referred to him as “Mini Dion”. Highlighted how impressive Travis is with his performances day after day.

During an interview, with Sports Illustrated, in 2021 he proudly stated, “As an athlete, I embrace my roots with gratitude. I recognize that I owe much to those who came before me and made sacrifices so that I could seize the opportunities presented to me today.”

Travis Hunger High School and College Career

Travis Hunter attended Collins Hill High School, in Suwanee, Georgia. During his time he played as a cornerback and wide receiver for the Eagles. Highly regarded by scouts he was considered a top-notch recruit. Ranked as the player in the 2022 recruiting class.

In his sophomore year, Hunter showcased his skills on both sides of the field. He managed to lead the county with seven interceptions while also making 49 receptions for 919 yards and scoring 12 touchdowns.

As a junior, he continued to excel with eight interceptions, 51 tackles, and remarkable offensive stats of 137 catches, for 1,746 yards and an impressive 24 touchdowns. These outstanding performances earned him the MaxPreps Georgia Player of the Year award.

Initially committed to playing college football at Florida State University Hunter made a decision in December 2021. He decided to change his commitment and instead chose Jackson State University. This move made history as he became the ranked prospect ever to commit to an HBCU or FCS program.

Hunter had his year, as a player at Jackson State, where he showcased his skills as both a receiver and cornerback. During that time he successfully caught 14 passes for 141 yards. Scored two touchdowns. In the end, he also displayed his talent by securing two interceptions.

Later in December of 2022, Hunter made the decision to transfer to the University of Colorado. As of now, he is embarking on his freshman season, at Colorado. Is anticipated to contribute as both a receiver and cornerback.
