Researchers from University of Washington found that sudden cardiac arrest is one of the leading causes of death among college athletes.
Basketball players and football players are at the most risk, accounting for up to 50% of all the cases amongst college athletes.
Many people have lost their lives while playing basketball. Some people managed to overcome the uncertainty, but not everyone was as fortunate as Bronny James.
The 23-year-old famously died while playing basketball against the Portland Pilots. He was taking medication for his irregular heartbeats, but allegedly skipped them on game days.

During a practice game in the off-season, the former Celtics suddenly collapsed. He was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and died at the age of 27.

Bronny passed out mid-game at a USC practice session. He was promptly transported to the hospital with the help of the university medical staff, and he is anticipated to make complete recovery.

Earlier this year, the 18-year-old high school player collapsed during a game of basketball. He was rushed to the hospital and after fighting the battle for his life for a week, he died.

Zeke was playing in the G-league at the time of the incident. During the final minutes of the game his heart stopped, and two days later was pronounced dead. He was 26 at the time.
