Christina Spirou Day was born on April 8, 1978, in Manchester, New Hampshire to parents Patricia and Stanley Spirou. Among her friends, she is known as Nina. She and Ryan Day met in childhood at ages 6 and 7 while playing tee ball and became best friends.
In June 2005, Day married his high school sweetheart Christina Spirou. Christina attended Manchester Central High School, graduating in 1996. She went on to graduate from the University of New Hampshire in 2000 with a degree in Communication.
Growing up, Nina was immersed in basketball through her father Stan Spirou, who served as the men’s basketball coach at Southern New Hampshire University for over 30 years. This athletic upbringing helped prepare her to be a coach’s wife.
Career and Interests
After college, Christina worked as an adjunct faculty member at Southern New Hampshire University for 5 years. She later worked as a nurse before leaving her career to focus on motherhood once Ryan’s coaching took off.
Christina enjoys staying active through sports and fitness. She shares a love of golf with Ryan and always appears in the stands to cheer him on. However, family is Christina’s top priority. She devotes herself to supporting Ryan and raising their kids.
Ryan and Christina have established a fund to support children’s mental health research in collaboration with Nationwide Children’s Hospital. This allows them to increase awareness of mental health issues.
Day Family Mental Health Advocacy
Ryan was raised by a single mother after his father Raymond tragically died by suicide in 1988. This personal loss motivated Ryan and Christina to advocate for mental health awareness.
In August 2022, they donated $1 million to Ohio State to fund mental health research through the Ryan Day Resilience Fund, focusing on college-aged individuals. The Days hope to prevent similar tragedies for other families.
Ryan and Christina Day’s Kids
Ryan and Christina Day have three children together – their son Ryan Jr., daughter Grace, and daughter Ourania (Nia). Ryan Jr. was born in 2009, Grace in 2013, and Nia in 2017. They also adopted Ryan’s former player Nolan in 2017.
Where is Christina Day Now?
Christina resides near Powell, Ohio with Ryan and their kids after relocating from Philadelphia in 2017. As head coach, Ryan’s responsibilities have grown, but Christina manages their family and household so he can focus on coaching.
Though Christina prefers privacy outside of football games, her behind-the-scenes support has been instrumental to Ryan’s success at Ohio State. She is a dedicated mother and wife.
Christina Spirou Day is more than just Ryan Day’s high school sweetheart – she is his loyal partner, devoted mom, and the rock that grounds him. Her unconditional support, despite the demands of coaching, is inspiring. The lifelong partnership between Ryan and Christina shows that behind every great coach is an equally great spouse.
