Michael Oher’s Net Worth in 2024: Is He Broke?

Date:

In a compelling twist to the narrative surrounding Michael Oher, whose life story inspired the film “The Blind Side,” recent developments have taken a legal turn. Oher has taken the step of filing a petition in a Tennessee court, making a bold assertion about a core deception portrayed in the movie. This alleged untruth is claimed to have not only paved the way for the Tuohy family’s financial gain but also to Oher’s detriment.

Oher contends that the formal adoption depicted never transpired in reality. His stance is rooted in the assertion that rather than being adopted by the Tuohy family, he was guided into a conservatorship arrangement. This maneuver allegedly conferred upon the Tuohy family the legal power to make decisions on Oher’s behalf in business matters.

“The lie of Michael’s adoption is one upon which Co-Conservators Leigh Anne Tuohy and Sean Tuohy have enriched themselves at the expense of their Ward, the undersigned Michael Oher.” This is the legal filing that is filled by Oher.

Oher’s financial wealth is a topic of discussion while this story is breaking.

The Net Worth Of Michael Oher

Is Michael Oher Broke

Michael Oher’s net worth is $16 million in 2024 as per various public sources which means he is not broke. While the Oscar-winning film linked to Oher’s life raked in a substantial $300 million at the box office, Oher himself found little satisfaction in his portrayal.

His 2011 autobiography, “I Beat the Odds: From Homelessness to the Blind Side and Beyond,” countered the movie’s depiction. Oher asserted that his football acumen surpassed on-screen portrayal and his extroverted nature contrasted the introverted image presented, before his connection with the Tuohys.

Selected as the 23rd pick in the 2009 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens, Oher inked a $13.8 million, five-year deal. Subsequently, a $20 million, four-year contract beckoned in 2014 with the Tennessee Titans. Regrettably, injury struck, leading to his placement on the injured reserve. The following February, the Titans parted ways with the offensive tackle.

Just a month later, Oher found himself on a new journey, inking a $7 million, two-year contract with the Carolina Panthers. It was with them that he experienced his sole Super Bowl appearance.

The following year, a promising turn came as he signed a $21.6 million, three-year extension with $9.5 million in guarantees. Sadly, a concussion in the third game of the season halted his stride, leading to a release due to a failed physical in the subsequent year. In May 2014, Oher purchased a Brentwood home for $1.3 million.
