In 2015 Riley returned to Oklahoma. Assumed the position of coordinator under head coach Bob Stoops. It didn’t take long for Riley’s leadership to make its mark on the Sooners’ offense. They achieved success during this period setting school and conference records. In 2017 following Stoops’ departure from his head coach position Riley was chosen as his successor.

Fast forward to 2022 when Riley made a decision by leaving Oklahoma to become the head coach at USC. In his season leading the Trojans, he guided them to an impressive record of 11-3 and secured a place in the Pac 12 Championship Game. Riley has gained recognition as one of football’s inventive offensive strategists.

His powered spread offense heavily emphasizes passing plays and play-action maneuvers. Additionally, he has earned praise for his ability to nurture quarterback talents with three Heisman Trophy winners. Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, and Caleb Williams. Having benefited from his guidance throughout their careers.

Lincoln Riley Rivalry teams

As the head coach of USC, Lincoln Riley’s rivalry teams include:

  • UCLA Bruins: The Trojans’ most hated rival, the two teams play for the Victory Bell every year.
  • Notre Dame Fighting Irish: One of the most storied rivalries in college football, dating back to 1926.
  • Stanford Cardinal: A more regional rivalry, but still very heated.
