Sam Hartman Brothers: Meet Demitri Allison and Joe Hartman

Date:

Sam Hartman is one of the most improved players in college football and is considered a potential Heisman Trophy contender. According to reports, the Notre Dame quarterback will be eligible for NFL drafts next year.

But have you ever noticed that he is always talking about his brothers and why they mean so much to him? Let’s find out who Sam Hartman’s brothers are: Demirti Allison and Joe Hartman.

Demitri Allison: Sam Hartman’s Adopted Brother

Sam Hartman has two brothers, Demitri Allison and Joe Hartman. Demitri was 15 years old when he decided to move in with the Hartmans. He lived with them all throughout his four years of high school. Demirti was an exceptional student-athlete with a vibrant personality.

Unfortunately, a tragedy unfolded at Elon University on Wednesday, 2015, when 21-year-old wide receiver Demitri Allison committed suicide by jumping from a 10-story residence hall at the University of North Carolina.

This incident really was a traumatizing event for Sam at such a young age, as he always looked up to his big brother, Demitri. Hartman has said that Allison was like a brother to him in every sense of the word. Hartman loved his big brother and later followed in his footsteps to honor his life.

Demitri’s Back Story

Demirti Allison was a native of Cornelius, North Carolina, who established himself as a key player and the wide receiver of the Phoenix’s football team. Born on September 4, 1994, he was a bright student and an even brighter athlete. However, due to circumstances such as poverty and growing up in a rough neighborhood, his chances seemed dim.

The Hartman family saw the potential in the kid and took him under their wing. He was their newly adopted son, who always cracked jokes and was fun to be around. His second mother, Lisa Hartman, revealed that just a few days before the incident, he was at a family gathering with his girlfriend, laughing and enjoying himself.

She said she regretted that she couldn’t do anything to save her son and wished she’d known about his mental struggles earlier. She told the interviewers that he even left a note for the family before committing suicide.

Demitri’s Relationship with Sam Hartman

Demitri and Sam were very close. Demitri was in high school, and Sam was only an elementary school student when they used to run laps in the backyard and practice football together. Their common love for sports created a bond stronger than brotherhood.

Sam really hero-worshipped his big brother, so needless to say, Sam was devastated when he got the news of his brother’s suicide. He wrote multiple blogs and gave a few interviews, detailing his struggle with mental health and the death of his brother.

A marketing major and one of the best wide receivers, he was set to take large leaps forward in his football career. Unfortunately, he is not with us anymore, but his brother, Sam Hartman, is. He is doing his best to continue his brother’s legacy.

He played various sports in college, like basketball and baseball, but later sailed on his journey in pursuit of knowledge. He is currently a dedicated research assistant at the University of Florida in Gainesville and provides guidance and support to his younger brother, Sam.

Sam Hartman, a Champion of Mental Health Awareness

Sam Hartman has unlocked the door to a fresh perspective on football and life, became a voice against the stereotype of mental health, and is dedicating his life to a noble pursuit. The Hartman family even started the Demitri Allison Foundation, which raises awareness about mental health and suicide prevention.

He’s created a way to cope with failure, researched the core reasons for his anxiety and stress, and applied what he’s learned in therapy to his relationships, on and off the court. Hartman said that he wears the number 10 as a way to keep his brother’s memory alive. He also wears the initials “D.A.” on his wristband every game, a touching tribute to his late brother.

Conclusion

Sam Hartman is a college football player motivated by the tragic death of his adopted brother, Demitri Allison. Demitri was a promising athlete who committed suicide at the age of 21, back in 2015. Hartman wears the number 10 as a tribute to his late brother and has started a foundation to raise awareness about suicide prevention and mental health while also talking about his struggles in public.
